Special Kids 5K Race- Autism Mini Album

Hey there friends, happy Monday.
Recently I had the opportunity to experience a wonderful show
of support from a friend who ran a 5K for my son with Autism.
My son was even able to run the last 100 yards or so with him.
It was such a beautiful experience that I decided to take the photos and turn them
into a min album for my son who I want to be able to really
remember that day with visuals of course.
I used the April Kit from Creating Made Easy to create the album and I am in love.
I lost several friends when my son was diagnosed because instead of making
excuses for how my son acted and people treated him, I no longer accepted those
behaviors and it really made me realize I didn't have to accept shitty behavior from
people for myself either.
If I was going to advocate for my Autistic son then I needed to show him, I do
not allow that treatment for myself either. I don't want him to think it's ok
for people to treat him like garbage and he just has to take it.
So for JD to do this, it meant so very much! The support I have found from
amazing people far outweighs the loss!
WE ARE VERY BLESSED!
Thank you JD!

My Kids And Making Shaped Cards With Any Machine! :)

Hey there friends, Happy Monday!
I have a couple of projects to share today- first of all
I have a full step by step tutorial for making shaped cards on
the CutCardStock blog-
And of course this card would not be possible without
the Xyron Creative Station- I love this machine! All those cuts make
card making so much easier. :)
I would love for you to go check it out and let them know what you think.
And in case you can't tell it is a Samantha Walker Cut File!
Which reminds me of project #2- I have
a TUTORIAL on making Punched Shapes in your digital scrapbook pages!

So check them out! We had a HUGE weekend
at the Mossy Oak Archery Tournament and my son shot a 275!!!!
They asked me to be the photographer and what a treat that was!!
It was very sweet- and I felt so accomplished.
I can't wait for the next one.
Well off to work today and hope to be creative!!

Happy Monday friends! :) Don't forget to check out the links.

Autism- Searching For Answers....Rubbing And Self Harm

Good morning friends,

We have struggled this week and every time I am struggling
I tell myself..."Cristal, when you were a little girl NO ONE cared
about you, nor did they care what happened to you. You are NOT
going to be those people. You DO care and you WILL go on no matter how hard".
So I do...I go on...

This week has been busy and that is why I have not posted daily as usual.
After my first "Autism" post we have attended a conference,
we have gone to the school board, found a liaison, studied, switched schools
and so much more!!
I could not have done it without my friends for sure!!
They have cared, stood by me and held me up while I was down.
Now I am the first person to admit I do not want my life to be
revolved around Autism now that we have a diagnosis,
but I am also the FIRST person to tell you that we have always
had the boys involved in causes because it is healthy to be aware.
From children who have been raped and abused in Oregon to
pillowcases for Conkerr Cancer here in TN- to Special Needs baseball.
And clearly this is just another avenue in our life to raise 3 boys
who love and understand this world is FULL of beautiful souls.

So yes, you might get tired of my "Autism" posts. And no I won't
stop posting them, because we embrace this as much as anything else that comes
into my life.
When I first begin speaking about about being raped and abused
I found my voice and it has helped others.
Being kept silent for all those year taught me to shout it out everywhere
I go. And this diagnosis will be the same.

After finding no help with the school we decided to move my son.
As difficult as change is for my son- it was more difficult staying where
he felt the need to rub himself until he bled.
I did not understand fully why- he kept telling me just because
and we searched for an answer, but in the end it was simply
such overwhelming anxiety from the class he was in.

I am HAPPY to report that since changing school the rubbing, burning, and
self harm has stopped completely. As much as I was afraid of the change
for him- the comfort took over in his mind.
So it was a fantastic step for us as a family!

Those who are close to us know how much of a struggle that was.
I guess keeping my Autistic son feeling safe in his mind was the skeleton
key that took us a couple months to find.
I think that is the most difficult part of Autism-
finding the key to what is a problem. Without the language
skills to communicate it's like a giant guessing game.
That's the hardest part for me, because I am one of those moms-
find the problem FIX IT...no messing around just fix it.
Now I get to play "Find the problem"....which takes far longer than
the fix it most days.

As I am NEW to this world and I freely admit to knowing NOTHING
I will say I an not new to life and it's struggles, so I say to any Autism mom
DON'T GIVE UP!
Fight fight fight and fight more....camp outside offices like I did.
Cry, cry and cry more, do what you have to do because NO ONE ELSE WILL!

It was not easy getting to change schools, I fought, I literally camped outside offices
and went to every single liaison I could find.
Now I am on the hunt to EDUCATE myself...yes educate while being
a mom, teacher, wife and taxi driver. Nothing will push me harder than
knowing that if I give up my son loses and frankly- that's just not going to happen.

I go back to myself and say.....
"NO ONE fought for me. No one cared."
I will not let that happen to my son, he will KNOW that someone cared.

When he told me this week he knows I have his back I knew
everything was going to be alright.

Enjoy The Ride NEW STAMP SET! And Camping.

 Happy Monday friends!!
I am home from our weekend camping trip and
everything is getting back to normal- except the 50 loads of laundry! LOL

Anyways I wanted to share my latest Avocado Arts project-
I was featured on Sunday! **PSSTT go check it out and comment!**

This new stamp set- "Stuck On You" is freaking awesome! :)
On this card I stamped the bike frame in silver (ClearSnap Ink) and the
tires in the black. I love the gradiated feel it has.

I tried to use fall colors as we are prepping for fall and to share
how versatile this stamp set really is! :)
I also took the windmill stick and made it into a sign (yes
I am very creative LOL). And made a basket with flowers.

What a great stamp set to welcome Monday!
And a fun camping trip to take the stress away!!! :)
Here are a couple quick photos.

Happy Monday friends.

Kindness in Crafting and Blessings in Life~

Good morning friends,
I sat down this weekend after a baptism I attended and was
digging through old supplies from companies I worked for in the past
I was feeling soft and nostalgic and ran across this Kanban goodness.
I decided to make this card.
When I begin crafting I ran across amazingly KIND people and I ran
across amazingly CRUEL people- some that welcomed me with open arms
and some that ridiculed and were beyond mean to me.
I think it really shaped the kind of crafter I wanted to be.
Always understanding and uplifting of others no matter how small the project
or how new the crafter. You know it all comes from the heart and it inspired me
to make this card. One simple word that means so much- KINDNESS.
When I see projects I just see the love and joy in the hands-
sometimes it doesn't have to be on the cover of the next magazine
that is dying out- sometimes it's just that small touch and smile when you
open it up and see that someone took the time to make it...
just for YOU. I would encourage you to leave some kindness today.
This card is going to be left at my local library for a stranger to find and use.

I also snapped a couple photos of a real southern baptism we
attended this weekend of my friend Melody's and Daniels son.
Never been to a river baptism- it was beautiful.
Anything with family- can't miss it.
Hope you have a wonderful Monday- full of kindness and love.
Thanks for stopping by my friends! :)
